Poblenou del Delta

Population located in the Delta del Ebro, belongs to the municipality of Amposta. Its urban core is characterized by its simple white houses with two floors and interior patios, as planned by the architect José Borobio (1907-1984), which stand out among its landscaped streets full of palm trees. The square bell tower of the church identifies it in the distance and the whole complex shows a typical Mediterranean aspect.

It is located in a privileged place between the Encañizada lagoon and the Alfaques bay, very close to the old San Antonio salt flats and the Trabucador beach.

A little history
This small town was born, as such, in the middle of the 20th century. Its settlers received a home and land to farm. In 2003 the Generalitat changed its original name to Poblenou del Delta.

The evolution in agriculture has changed the economy of this community that is currently dedicated mainly to tourism.

Enviroment

The Ebro Delta Natural Park is located in the province of Tarragona and in the counties of Montsià and Baix Ebro. It has been a protected area since 1983, and was expanded in 1986 with an area of nearly 8,000 hectares.

There we find the municipalities of Ampolla, Amposta, Camarles, Deltebre, Sant Carles de la Rápita and Sant Jaume de Enveja. It is the largest wetland in Catalonia.

The shape of the delta varies with the storms and coastal processes typical of the Mediterranean climate, as well as climate change that is raising the sea level.
